Bell scores 14 in First Half as Lady Yellow Jackets advance to District Final

The Lady Yellow Jackets Girls Basketball team improved to 18-5 with an easy win in the District Semifinals in Division Two Girls basketball tournament action 57-29 over Columbus Briggs. The 8 seed Briggs got the scoring started with Te’Asia Ray hitting a three but Mount Vernon followed that up with a 14-0 run on a Kymber Bell two, Kaitlyn Thompson two and Isla Graham three. Bell would finish back to back three point plays and Graham made a free throw to got up 14-3. Ray and Rees Lepley traded buckets before a Graham three. Haley Lane and Ray finished the quarter with scores to trail 19-9 after one.

Bell hit back to back buckets to send the Jackets lead to 23-9 with 424 left in the half before Ray scored. Maddie Jones and Maddie Tocheff. Lepley got a bucket followed by Bell to finish the half on a 10-0 run and lead 33-11. Thompson scored 8 points in the third as the Jackets lead ballooned to 49-17 after three.

Lepley made it 53-18 with 637 to go in the fourth with Ray scored 5 straight to cut into the lead. Lepley got a two and Ray nailed another three it wasa 53-26 with 404 left. Lepley scored before Briggs hit a three. Lepley finshed the scoring with a bucket with 127 left.

The Jackets play the winner of Worthington Kilbourne and Teays Valley Friday Night at 830pm at the Expo Center on WMVO Facebook Page. Bell had 14 to lead Mount Vernon, all in the first half. Thompson had 10 and Tocheff added 6.
