MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (15-13, 11-7) began its series with the Marian University Knights (16-13, 11-7) with a doubleheader at the Cougar Baseball Field on Thursday, March 28.

MVNU opened the day with a 13-3 victory over the Knights. A five-run second inning set the tone for MVNU early. Joe Poremsky started the scoring as he crossed home plate after a fielding error. Rider Minnick then hit a three-run homer, and Poremsky would then draw a bases-loaded walk for the fifth run of the second inning. Minnick continued his big day as he finished 5-6 at the plate with five RBI. Johnny Nixon and Zackary Hoop each batted in a pair of runs as well. Logan Fox got the start and the win on the mound as he allowed six hits and just two runs in seven innings. Fox had four strikeouts.

MVNU’s offense went cold in the backend of the doubleheader as it only had two hits in the 0-8 shutout loss. Marian got on the board first, scoring four runs in the second and two in the third to take control. Marian padded its lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
