Audeh leads Owls in season-opening event

GAMBIER, Ohio — Cracking open the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule, the Kenyon College men’s tennis team, led by junior Rakkan Audeh, showed plenty of promise during the Kenyon College Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday and the VandenBerg Courts and the Jasper Tennis Center.

The Owls invited eight other teams to compete in the event, which placed players into pods for both singles and doubles competition.

Throughout the two-day competition, Audeh went undefeated for Kenyon. He was a perfect 3-0 in singles play, notching wins over Connor Coleman from Washington and Lee University, Daniel French from Case Western Reserve University, and Rohan Gold from Oberlin College.

In doubles play, he paired with first-year Alejandro Gonzalez to post wins against opponents from Case Western Reserve and Denison University. He then rounded out the weekend by teaming with Subhan Bin Salik to blank a doubles team from Otterbein University.

Gonzalez, playing in his first-ever collegiate event, matched Audeh’s results, as he went a perfect 3-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles play for Kenyon. His classmate, Gianluca Bocanegra, added another 3-0 singles performance for the Owls.

As a team, Kenyon wound up going 18-6 in singles matches and 8-5 in doubles matches throughout the weekend.

The Owls will now prepare for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Central Region Championship, which will be hosted by Kalamazoo College and will start on Friday, September 29.
