Terry Scott retiring as Mount Vernon City Auditor

After nearly three decades of dedicated service, Mount Vernon City Auditor Terry Scott has announced his retirement, effective September 6th. Throughout his commendable career, Scott has worked under three different mayors, starting with Ernie Farmer, followed by Dick Mavis, and currently serving under the present mayor Matt Starr. His steadfast dedication has significantly contributed to the city’s administration. As he prepares to step down, the city extends its deepest gratitude for his years of service and wishes him a fulfilling retirement.

The Knox County Republican Party will be part of the filling of the Auditor’s Position.

Members of the Central Committee who live in Mount Vernon will interview the candidates after verifying their professional qualifications and voting records and checking for legal issues.

Those committee members will then formally appoint a candidate between five and 45 days after Scott’s resignation. To retain the unexpired portion of Scott’s term, the replacement would have to run in November 2025.

The replacement would run again in 2027 for the regular four-year term if he or she chooses.
