Scholarships available for MVNU academic summer camps

New summer academic camps at Mount Vernon Nazarene University will provide hands-on insight into college majors and future careers.

Ten camps will be offered over two weeks in July, opening the door for high school students to explore some of MVNU’s most popular programs as well as college life. Overnight camps will provide freshmen, sophomores, and juniors with hands-on learning experiences in their academic field of interest. These one-week sessions will help students decide if college — and a specific major — is right for them.

“MVNU’s academic summer camps will provide answers to the questions high school students are asking. Is college right for me? What major should I choose? Without the opportunity to explore, these are hard questions to answer,” said Dr. Amy Kovach, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “By attending one of our camps, students will be able to more fully address both questions before they pay tuition dollars!”

Registration is now open for the following programs:

WEEK 1, JULY 10-14

•Criminal Investigations

•Environmental Science

•Education

•Video Production

•Pre-Law

WEEK 2, JULY 17-21

•Art and Design

•Emergency Preparedness

•Engineering

•Exercise Science

•Nursing

“In addition to being fun, participation in academic summer camps will give students exposure to a career field. That is important in helping them make sound decisions about their vocational paths,” said Dr. LeeAnn Couts, Dean, School of Natural and Social Sciences. “It also gives them a taste of what college will be like and builds their confidence that they can be successful in college.”

The cost for one camp is $485 or register for two weeks for $920. Camp costs include academic sessions and labs with MVNU faculty, meals, overnight accommodations and campus experiences.

Thanks to financial support from the Knox County Foundation, the Richland County Foundation and friends of the university, a limited number of scholarships are available for those with financial needs.

The deadline to register is June 16. Each camp is limited to the first 24 students to complete their registrations and submit their registration fees (Film Production will be limited to 16 students).
