Mayor Matt Starr with the City of Mount Vernon said that over the recent three-day weekend, local road crews worked tirelessly to ensure safe driving conditions. On Saturday, six drivers logged 36 twelve-hour shifts, utilizing 75 tons of salt. Sunday saw five drivers working from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., accumulating 52 twelve-hour shifts and spreading 111 tons of salt. Monday’s efforts involved five drivers from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m., contributing 35 hours and 66 tons of salt. Altogether, crews worked 124 hours of overtime, used 252 tons of salt, and spent $1,085.43 on fuel to keep roads clear and safe during the winter weather. Road crews are also working with asphalt to fill potholes.
