Richland County Children Services Launches Campaign to Recruit Foster Families

Richland County Children Services is asking the community to consider opening their homes to children in need through a new foster parent recruitment campaign.

The initiative, titled “This Seat Is Waiting,” highlights the ongoing need for licensed foster families as more children enter the county’s child welfare system.

Agency officials say the number of children requiring temporary placement continues to exceed the number of available foster homes, making it increasingly difficult to keep children close to their schools, friends and support systems.

The campaign shares the experiences of current foster parents while encouraging individuals and families to learn more about becoming licensed caregivers. Children entering foster care may need a temporary home for only a short period while others require longer-term placements.

Officials say foster parents play a critical role in providing stability, encouragement and a safe environment during some of the most challenging times in a child’s life. Training and ongoing support are provided to help foster families succeed.

Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a foster parent can contact Richland County Children Services for information about upcoming orientation sessions and licensing requirements.

Agency leaders hope the campaign will encourage more local families to step forward and help meet the growing need throughout Richland County.
