RADNOR WOMAN SENTENCED TO 42 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ENDANGERING CHILDREN

January 27, 2025 – Rhonda Coomes, a 53-year-old Radnor woman who operated an in-home daycare at her residence, has been sentenced to the maximum sentence of 42 years in prison for Endangering Children by Delaware County Common Pleas Judge James P. Schuck.

Coomes pled to 14 counts of Endangering Children (all felonies of the third degree) on December 3, 2024. Each count of Endangering Children relates to a different victim and carried a potential 36-month prison sentence.

“Justice was served today for Coomes who took unthinkable actions against innocent children and broke the trust placed with her by many parents.” Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel said. “As a community, we must all stay vigilant to protect our kids, if you suspect child abuse, please report it.”

This case was prosecuted by Chief Criminal Prosecutor, Mark Sleeper, and investigated by Detective Monica Weaver of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. Weaver opened an investigation into Coomes after receiving anonymous complaints about potential child abuse by Coomes in her home daycare.

If you suspect child abuse is occurring with someone you know, please reach out to Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422- 4453 or to our local Department of Job and Family Services at 740-833-2300.
