Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash in Knox County

Clay Township – The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating
a two-vehicle crash that occurred on October 2, 2023 at approximately 2:57 PM. The
crash occurred on County Road 73 (Deal Road) in Clay Township of Knox County.


Kevin Woosley, age 59, of Centerburg, Ohio, was operating a 2000 Harley Davidson and
was traveling West on County Road 73. Elwood Wells, age 76, of Utica, Ohio, was
operating a 2005 Honda Element and was traveling East on County Road 73. Mr. Wells
attempted to turn left into a private drive and was struck by Mr. Woosley. Mr. Woosley
then traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Mr. Woosley was
transported to Knox Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Mr. Wells
received minor injuries from the crash and was not transported.


Mr. Woosley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/ or drug use
are not suspected factors in this crash.


The Ohio State Patrol was assisted on scene by Bladensburg Fire District, the Knox
County Sheriff Department, and Blubaugh’s Towing. The crash remains under
investigation.
