Motorists traveling through central Ohio this week should plan ahead as the Ohio Department of Transportation begins a series of overnight lane and ramp closures tied to several major construction projects.
Among the biggest impacts will be work at the Interstate 270 and Interstate 71 interchange on Columbus’ north side, where multiple overnight closures are scheduled beginning Monday, July 6. The construction is part of ODOT’s ongoing effort to improve traffic flow and safety at one of the region’s busiest interchanges.
Beginning Monday night, I-71 northbound at the I-270 interchange will close nightly from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. through Tuesday morning. The I-270 westbound ramp to I-71 northbound will also close overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, with a posted detour directing drivers to continue north on I-71 to Polaris Parkway before returning south to the interchange.
Additional closures are planned throughout the week, including:
- Tuesday, July 7: The I-270 eastbound ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Drivers will be detoured via Cleveland Avenue before returning to I-270 westbound.
- Wednesday, July 8: Southbound I-71 at the I-270 interchange will have overnight lane restrictions from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.
- The I-270 southbound exit ramp to Easton Way will also close overnight beginning Monday from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. for intersection improvement work.
Drivers in Franklin and Morrow counties should also be aware that State Route 288 between State Route 61 and State Route 19 is scheduled to close beginning Monday, July 6, for approximately four weeks while crews complete bridge repairs. A signed detour will be in place during the closure.
ODOT reminds motorists to slow down in work zones, allow extra travel time, and watch for changing traffic patterns throughout the week. All work is weather permitting.
Current traffic conditions, detours and construction updates are available through ODOT’s traffic advisory system and the OHGO traveler information service.
