MVNU Theatre presents a new twist on bedtime stories

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University is thrilled to present Bedtime Stories: As Told by Dad (Who Messed Them Up), written by Ed Monk., with performances tonight and Saturday. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. in the Thorne Performance Hall of R.R. Hodges Chapel/Fine Arts Center.

This engaging, family-friendly production offers a humorous and heartwarming retelling of well-loved fairy tales, blending familiar stories with surprising twists. Watch as Dad takes charge of story time for his three lively kids, though his version of the tales gets a little fuzzy.

Audiences will be enchanted as Dad’s unconventional storytelling brings a snoring prince to The Princess and The Pea, a dinosaur twist to The Boy Who Cried Wolf, and even a gold-to-straw dilemma in Rumpelstiltskin. Expect laughter and surprises as these classic tales are reimagined.

Sydney Moon, MVNU Theatre program director, shared her excitement, saying, “The audience will love the energy and humor this cast brings. We’ve developed full backstories and motivations for each character, allowing the actors to make hilarious additions to the story. It’s a story that will delight all ages with laughter and surprises.”

This is Moon’s first year as the director, and she brings extensive experience — from studying theater at Liberty University to performing in various productions. With her background in theater and graphic design, she has also been hands-on in set, costume, and lighting design, helping bring this unique production to life.

“Theater is such an important space for friendships and community to form,” Moon added. “By the end of every show, the cast and crew truly feel like one big family.”

Tickets are on-sale for $10 general admission or $8 for children or MVNU students. Tickets can be purchased at theatre.mvnu.edu or at the door.
