MVFD Hosts ‘Push-In’ Event

The Mount Vernon Fire Department officially placed its newest medic unit into service Thursday during a traditional “push-in” ceremony held at the station alongside firefighters, family members, and community supporters.

The long-standing fire service tradition dates back to the days of horse-drawn equipment, when crews would physically push apparatus back into the station after returning from calls. Today, departments continue the ceremony as a symbol of teamwork, dedication, and service.

Mayor Matthew Star said, “This new medic unit is an important investment in public safety, equipped with modern technology to help our firefighters and paramedics provide excellent emergency care when our residents need it most,” He continued, “But the true strength of this department is
not only in the equipment; it’s in the men and women who answer the call every day with skill,
courage, and compassion.”

Established in 1849, the Mount Vernon Fire Department serves the city and surrounding townships with fire suppression and advanced EMS services. Department officials say the upgraded medic unit will help firefighters and paramedics continue delivering high-level emergency response throughout the community.
