Mount Vernon gets two state Champs in Wrestling

Mount Vernon’s Alex Taylor became the first Yellow Jacket boy to win a state title after defeating Mike Millin of Massillon Perry, 10-5, in the OHSAA state wrestling championships on Sunday at Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center. Taylor helped the Yellow Jackets to a 10th-place finish as a team. Taylor is in the 285 pound weight class.

Mount Vernon’s Ashlynn Brokaw became the school’s first-ever wrestling state champ with a 7-6 win over Urbana’s Libertie Nigh in the 105-pound title match.

East Knox’s Blake Elliott lost his final match 14-7 but finished on the State Podium as a first team Ohioan in 8th place at 190 pound weight class. Elliott made 4 trips to state in his four year career and 2 All Ohio placements.

Jake Taylor of Mount Vernon and Centerburg’s Chris Marshall were both All Ohioans as well. Marshall became Centerburg’s first two time state placer.
