Mount Vernon Council members and Mayor get heated at Monday’s Meeting

Tempers flared at Mount Vernon City Council Monday Night as Mayor Matt Starr was upset about the vote regarding a Communications Director position. Starr was frustrated and during the comment portion of the meeting said to Council ” I am very disappointed and then said “eyes up here please” before telling Council it was his turn to talk and again saying “eyes up here and talking to President Bruce Hawkins and saying “Mr. President we have an agreement that there are no surprises when we get to this session.”
Starr then went on and said “Four of you voted no on the Communications Director and not one of you sent me an email about it. Next time you want to lecture me about being a bad communicator point the finger at yourself because I am tired of taking that criticism of not communicating and not being transparent, when you have clearly different rules to follow, I’m tired of it.”
Councilman Mike Miller said the communication is good but could be better according to comments at the meeting.
Councilwoman Amber Keener said at the meeting that she will continue to vote no against roles created for individuals.
