McKinney exhibit examines one-sided friendships

Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Schnormeier Gallery is proud to present Embarrassments of a One-Sided Friendship, a solo alumni exhibition by Clarence Adrian McKinney. This exhibit is open and will be on display in the gallery through Dec. 7, 2023.

A gallery talk will take place during Homecoming on Nov. 10, at 5 p.m., with the opening reception following the talk from 6-8 p.m.

Embarrassments of a One-Sided Friendship is an introspective exploring the societal phenomenon of many one-sided relationships and the dynamics of isolation. McKinney uses multiple mediums on wood and linen to create specific/random imagery to explore themes of authentic intimacy by revealing sometimes embarrassing details about himself that the viewer is not fully “let in on.”

McKinney is a 2003 graduate of MVNU and has shown his work nationally and internationally. He is also the recipient of the Aaron J. Gardner World Award of Arts and the Grace Ann Dauberman Lifetime Achievement Award for the Arts.

The Schnormeier Gallery is located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU’s Buchwald Center. It is open Monday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m. For more information, contact the Schnormeier gallery at artgallery@mvnu.edu.
