Knox County Names Rick Lanuzza as New 911 Dispatch Director

Knox County has appointed longtime first responder Rick Lanuzza as the next director of its 911 Dispatch Center, bringing more than two decades of emergency response and leadership experience into the role.

Lanuzza has served as Chief of Fredericktown EMS since 2004 and previously worked as a firefighter and paramedic with the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District in Danville. He has been active in countywide emergency services efforts, including the Knox County Fire & EMS Chiefs Association and the county’s 911 Advisory Board. The county highlighted his background as a key strength, noting his firsthand understanding of what responders need from dispatch and his experience leading teams in high‑pressure situations. “Rick brings immense expertise and a wealth of experience,” the release states.

Beyond his field work, Lanuzza has contributed to training and community health initiatives. He has taught CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support at Knox Community Hospital and currently serves on the Mental Health and Recovery Board for Licking and Knox Counties. He also chairs the Knox County Local Emergency Planning Committee and has collaborated with 911 staff on projects ranging from CPR education to radio system coordination and Emergency Medical Dispatch training.

Lanuzza said he is looking forward to supporting dispatch personnel and ensuring the county continues to use technology effectively to deliver timely emergency services. “I will be surrounded by a great team of men and women who have a passion for their job,” he said in the release.

He will succeed Director Laura Webster, who retires in July after 31 years with Knox County, including 20 years as a dispatcher and 11 in administration. Lanuzza begins his transition into the position on May 18.
