Pounds collected: 136.8 pounds of unused, unwanted and expired medication
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Knox County participated in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day. Final totals show that our community safely disposed of 136.8 pounds of unused, unwanted, and expired medication, along with several sharps containers.
Collection totals by location included:
· 63 lbs. at Knox Public Health and the Mount Vernon Health Center
· 16 lbs. at the Danville Police Department
· 38 lbs. at the Fredericktown Police Department
· 19.8 lbs. at Foster’s Pharmacy in Centerburg
Communities Coming Together, formerly the Knox Substance Abuse Action Team (KSAAT) extends sincere appreciation to the Fredericktown Police Department, Danville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and Mount Vernon Police Department for leading each drop-off site. We also thank the volunteers who generously donated their time to ensure the success of this event.
If you missed Drug Take Back Day, year-round, anonymous drop-boxes are available at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Fredericktown Police Department, Danville Police Department, and Mount Vernon Police Department. To dispose of medications properly, place them in a clear Ziploc bag. Please do not place liquids, inhalers, syringes, or illegal substances in the drop-boxes.
