Knox County Community Health Center Celebrates National Health Center Week

The Knox County Community Health Center (KCCHC) is excited to celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW) 2024, which will take place from August 4th to August 10th. To commemorate the week-long celebration the KCCHC invites you to its annual Hawaiian themed pool party at Hiawatha Water Park at 100 Sychar Road in Mount Vernon. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 9th from 4:30 pm until closing, free admission, prize raffles, complimentary snacks, and more for the duration of the party.

This year’s NHCW celebration, initiated by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), theme is “Powering Communities Through Caring Connections”. Community Health Centers play a vital role in improving public health and promoting health equity. Health centers serve as the largest primary care network in the nation. Today, KCCHC serves 10,000 patients, offering counseling, dental, women’s health, and medical services at five (5) locations: three (3) in Mount Vernon and two (2) in Danville.

Dedicated to making high-quality, affordable care accessible to all, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status, health centers play a fundamental role in addressing the most critical public health challenges. They are supported by a workforce of nearly 300,000 dedicated professionals who not only work to prevent illness within the confines of the exam room but also address the social determinants that may contribute to it, such as climate change, homelessness, substance use disorders, food insecurity, and behavioral health.

“Come and celebrate this wonderful national program as we represent Knox County at the pool this coming Friday! Our team is excited to show their appreciation to the community and patients we help in Knox County. Working together to make a healthier community.” stated Health Center CEO Lane Belangia.

Nearly 1,500 health centers are the health care home to:

  • One in five uninsured people
  • One in three people living in poverty
  • One in seven rural residents
  • Nearly nine million children
  • 400,000 veterans
