The Knox County Community Health Center (KCCHC) is excited to celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW) 2025, taking place from August 3rd to August 9th. To commemorate the week-long celebration, KCCHC invites you to its annual Hawaiian-themed pool party at Hiawatha Water Park, located at 100 Sychar Road in Mount Vernon. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 8th from 4:30 pm until closing and will feature free admission, prize raffles, complimentary snacks, and more for the duration of the party.
This year’s NHCW celebration, launched by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), focuses on the theme: “America’s Health Centers Celebrating 60 Years of Improving our Nation’s Health.”. Community Health Centers (CHCs) across the country join the celebration through a host of scheduled events that include resource fairs, back-to-school drives, health screenings, and visits by local, state, and national leaders.
Today, KCCHC serves approximately 10,000 patients, offering counseling, dental, and medical services at six (6) locations: four (4) in Mount Vernon and two (2) in Danville.
With a mission to make high-quality, affordable care available to everyone, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. CHCs save lives and reduce healthcare costs by addressing our nation’s most pressing public health challenges. Community Health Centers are powered by a workforce of over 310,000 dedicated professionals who reach beyond the walls of the exam room with effective services that not only prevent illness but also address the factors that may cause it.
“This year’s celebration is especially meaningful as we recognize 60 years of Community Health Centers improving lives across the nation. We’re proud to be part of that legacy here in Knox County, providing care that goes beyond the exam room. Our pool party is a fun way to say thank you to the patients and families who trust us with their health,” stated Health Center CEO Shauna Schacht.
Over 1,500 CHCs nationwide are the health care home to:
- One in five uninsured people
- One in three people living in poverty
- One in five rural residents
- 9.4 million children
- 419,000 veterans
