In a courtroom in Knox County on Tuesday Afternoon Sam Shamansky, the attorney for defendant Gary Thomas Keesee junior, who is facing more than 30 counts of rape and gross sexual imposition combined, argued that the prosecution has delayed discovery and that he just received phone records of key witnesses in the case. Shamansky asked for a ten percent provision on the defendants 2 million dollar bond and asked his home be used as collateral. The prosecution led by Licking County Prosecutor Jenny Wells asked the conditions of that were in place prior to the hearing stay in place. The Judge in the case kept the bond at 2 million dollars. Judge Richard Wetzel stated the bond was appropriate and for the defense and prosecution to plan on a trial July 1st.
The hearing Tuesday stemmed from a superseding indictment filed in the case. Keesee’s attorney entered not guilty pleas on behalf of his client on the new charges.
The former leader of the Faith Life Church in New Albany is facing 32 charges, including 13 counts of rape, in a case that could result in a life sentence. Prosecutors have indicated new counts of rape and sexual abuse involving a fourth victim. They include 2 new counts of rape and 3 counts of gross sexual imposition introduced Tuesday in court.
A second suspect in the case is also being investigated.
OF NOTE: We spoke with a legal representative and he informed us that any property used as collateral for bond must be worth two times the bond amount to be considered to be posted
