Investigation continues into shooting in Howard Thursday involving Police

Knox County Ohio June 5th, 2025 – At 0121 hours Deputies were called to 10180 Busenburg Rd. Howard, Ohio in reference to an “open 911 call”. During the investigation, Deputies encountered a female; Lauretta Beltz-Frazee, claiming to have been injured by the male subject; Lloyd J Ray. The situation escalated quickly resulting in an exchange of gunfire between the male subject and a Deputy. The subject then released an unknown type of chemical causing the Deputies to evacuate the premises. Upon leaving the residence, the subject fired at Deputies and their patrol vehicles, resulting in a stand- off. Tactical units from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Mount Vernon City Police were activated as well as assistance from the Fredericktown Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio State Highway Patrol aviation unit. The stand-off continued until approximately 0530 hours at which time both the male and female subjects were discovered deceased inside the residence. 

Two additional occupants were safely removed from the residence during the incident. 

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was called to process and investigate the scene. This is an active and ongoing investigation and there are no further details available at this time.
