Inmate Assault on Corrections Officer in Knox County

Knox County, Ohio – On August 31, 2025, at approximately 4:43 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance in the “E-Dormitory of the Knox County Jail” involving inmate Hunter Clemons. Clemons was non-compliant and immediately became aggressive, assaulting a corrections officer by placing him in al chokehold and striking him in the face with a closed fist. Assisting deputies subdued Clemons and secured him. 

The corrections officer sustained serious injuries to the head and face and was transported for medical treatment. The officer’s identity is not being released at this time. 

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. The office intends to pursue a charge of Felonious Assault on a Peace Officer (F-1) against Clemons. The case will be presented to the Grand Jury on September 8. 

Clemons was being held on two counts of Grand Theft and one count of Retaliation Against a Law Enforcement Officer. He has since been transferred to Morrow County Jail pending a court appearance. 

Sheriff Daniel J. Weckesser will be seeking the maximum allowable sentence. This remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
