Gottke to leave Knox ADF, more updates in Mount Vernon

Mayor Matt Starr gave updates on the City Tuesday on WMVO

  • 150 People attended the Jerry and Joy Clinger Easter Egg Hunt in Mount Vernon this past Saturday. The event had been on hiatus since 2020
  • Property Transfer Legislation had a second reading regarding a parking lot across from 18 East Vine Street having the Mount Vernon Parking Company giving the parking lot to the city
  • Knox Comprehensive Plan had a first reading
  • Council gave permission to apply for a SAFER grant up to 300,000 dollars. Helps with hiring of new firefighters
  • The City purchased 1500 tons of salt for next year.
  • Mayor Starr was complimentary on the Food Hall coming to Mount Vernon. Mayor Starr says residents need to support this endeavor when it is completed
  • Park bathrooms will be opening soon
  • Memorial Day is coming up. Saint Vincent De Paul school students will be putting flags on Veteran’s graves. Check out the City’s website for information on Memorial Day Service for 2025
  • Coshocton Avenue Traffic Light work is being completed with radar. Radio technology work hasn’t begun but is coming in the future

  • Mayor Starr gave construction updates: Mansfield Avenue water line replacements completed and first culvert replacement north of Town and Country Vet is completed. Second culvert replacement is ongoing. Gas Line work continues there too. Traffic is closed to through traffic during construction but local traffic available
  • Fairgrounds Road work continues on Water Transmissions. Set to be completed by July 17th
  • Scott Zimmerman is back with the City as he is the new City Inspector
  • Jeff Gottke, ADF of Knox County President is leaving his position. He is going to work for City of Gahanna in Economic Development. His last day will be Wednesday. Sam Filkens will be the interim President of the ADF. Executive Committee will conduct interviews for permanent position
