MOUNT VERNON – The growing season is in full swing in Knox County. That means an abundant supply of locally grown produce is available at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market.
Twenty plus vendors set up on the Public Square each Saturday morning from 9 am to noon to provide a variety of foods, all grown within 25 miles of downtown Mount Vernon. In addition shoppers will find meats, baked goods, goat milk soap, honey, maple syrup, unique jams and jellies.
It has been a good year for produce. Cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, beets, and many other vegetables are available. We are looking forward to the local sweet corn harvest soon. Freshness is guaranteed when you are buying from our local vendors.
There are several incentives available to make shopping accessible for all income levels.
* SNAP
* Produce Perks fruit and vegetable program
* Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
* WIC
* Knox County Task Force for Older Adults Eat Fresh, Eat Local
* Produce Rex by Knox Community Health Center
Staff from the local WIC office will be on hand at the market to distribute their coupons.
