Francis resigns from Mount Vernon City Council

John Francis, the representative for the 2nd Ward in Mount Vernon, announced his resignation from Mount Vernon City Council Monday Night. Mayor Matt Starr for the City of Mount Vernon says Francis has served the city for 11 and a half years but that work hours were getting too hard for Francis to continue on City Council. Francis who has spent countless hours fighting to keep drugs out of the City and was a very approachable representative.

Francis is the the current President Pro Tem and Council will have to select a new President Pro Tem and Council will have to look at the committee structure. Francis was in charge of employee and community relations. A copy of Francis resignation will go to the Board of Elections. They then notify the Republican Party Chair. Thom Collier is the Board Chair and will assemble the Party will have between 5 and 45 days to select his replacement.
