WMVO Good Times Great Oldies
Over the weekend (May 29th – May 31st), people from all over Ohio met in one location right here in Mount Vernon. Their reason? To play games of many varieties at the second annual FamiliarCon.
This convention spanned many hobbies, such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Warhammer 40k, arts and crafts, and many other games and activities. Attendees also had the opportunity to play an Ohio-made trading card game, The Journey TCG. Various vendors were there selling art, sculptures, collectables and other gaming merchandise.
Not only was there celebration at the convention center, there were 3 “After Party” events hosted at Find Familiar Games after the convention center closed. These events included live music, raves, and plenty of late-night gaming.
This weekend event was hosted by Find Familiar Games, a recently opened game and hobby store in Mount Vernon, who specializes in trading cards, board games, video games, and hosts events locally in their own store. In fact, this event marks the 1 year anniversary of Find Familiar Games’ Grand Opening, where they hosted FamiliarCon for the first time in their store.
Many people within the community have already started posting pictures, saying their thanks to the vendors and coordinators, and showing excitement for future local events and next years FamiliarCon.
With its second year now complete, FamiliarCon has grown beyond its origins as a local game store event to a multi-day convention, bringing in people from all across Ohio, and is a reminder of the ever-growing gaming community in central Ohio.
