Experience Mount Vernon Announces the 2024 Memorial Day Banner Program

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Experience Mount Vernon is proud to acknowledge and honor the brave men and women who have lost their lives in service to our country. We are pleased to announce that we will be offering the Honoring Local Heroes Banner Program again in 2024 to pay tribute to these courageous sons and daughters of Knox County. By prominently displaying these banners throughout Downtown Mount Vernon, we aim to create a visual testament to the selfless sacrifices made by our local service members. This is our small way of expressing gratitude and deep respect for their unwavering dedication and ultimate sacrifice. We hope you will join us in acknowledging and celebrating the immense courage of our hometown heroes.

The Memorial Day Banner Program is an initiative that pays tribute to the brave service members of the United States Armed Forces who have passed away either during or since service. Under this program, community members can dedicate a banner to be hung on a light pole lining Main Street and East and West High Street in Mount Vernon, to an individual service member who was a resident of Knox County.

The banners measure 30 inches by 60 inches and will be double-sided, full-color, and custom-designed with the service member’s name, branch of service, dates of service, and photo (if provided). Experience Mount Vernon, and the City of Mount Vernon will determine where the banners will be located. The cost to sponsor a banner is $100, which covers the cost of production, installation, and removal. The banners will be displayed for approximately 30 days during the month of May. After the banners are removed, sponsors may schedule a time to pick them up.

Space is very limited, and banner applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to submit a sponsorship request is April 10, 2024, to allow for ample production time.
