Experience Mount Vernon announces the 2023 Honoring Local Heroes Banner Program

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Experience Mount Vernon takes immense pride in recognizing and honoring the brave men and women who have served our country and we are thrilled to offer the Honoring Local Heroes Banner Program again in 2023 to pay tribute to the courageous veterans of Knox County. By prominently displaying these banners throughout Downtown Mount Vernon, we aim to create a visual testament to the selfless sacrifices made by our local veterans. It is our small way of expressing gratitude and our deep respect for their unwavering dedication. We hope you will join us in acknowledging and celebrating the immense courage of our hometown heroes.

Honoring current and former service members of the United States Armed Forces, the Veterans Day Banner Program will allow community members to dedicate a banner to be hung on a light pole, lining Main Street and East and West High Street in Mount Vernon, to an individual service member who currently resides or has previously resided in Knox County.

Each 30” x 60” banner will be double sided, full-color and custom designed with the service member’s name, branch of service, dates of service, and photo (if provided). Banner locations shall be determined solely by Experience Mount Vernon and the City of Mount Vernon. The cost to sponsor a banner is $150 which covers the cost of production, installation, and removal. Banners are renewable for $75 for subsequent years. The banners will remain in place for roughly thirty (30) days between mid-October and mid-November. Once banners are removed, you may choose to pick it up to keep, or have it stored by Experience Mount Vernon to be renewed for future years.

In addition to banners honoring individual service members, we are offering general business/organization banners to honor and thank our local heroes. Businesses/organizations may choose to sponsor a blue or red banner that will list the business/organization name and thank our veterans for their service. These banners will hang in Downtown Mount Vernon alongside the individual banner sponsorships. Each business/organization banner will be 30” x 60”, full color, front and back and is available for sponsorship at $150 and renewable at $75 for subsequent years.

Space is limited and banner applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to submit a sponsorship request is September 15, 2023 to allow for ample production time.
