The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national enforcement mobilization will be in effect across the U.S. from Aug. 16 to Sep. 2.
Impaired driving is one of the deadliest and most often committed crimes, although it is preventable.
This Friday (August 9th, 2024), Knox County’s Safe Communities Coalition, coordinated by Knox Public Health, will host the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Kickoff. Local law enforcement and participating agencies will be located on the Public Square at the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Join us for corn hole, spin wheel questions, and to chat with our local law enforcement.
Impaired driving has impacted many Knox County residents.
So far in 2024, Knox County has had two traffic fatalities, with one of them being OVI-related. In the past five years, Knox County experienced its deadliest year for impaired driving in 2019 with five fatal OVI crashes. Out of the 35 fatal traffic crashes from 2019 to the present, 17 of them were OVI-related.
“We need motorists to commit to keeping our roads safe by planning ahead to designate a sober driver,” said Lieutenant Coby Holloway from the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “Please don’t risk your life or the lives of others by getting behind the wheel impaired.”
