Danville plays at Home, Mount Vernon at Newark as Week 2 of High School Football is set

Mount Vernon at Newark

The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets are coming off a home loss to Marion Harding to open the season 21-14 last week. Mason Richards had 91 yards rushing and two touchdowns and the Jackets got a lot of young talent in the game.

Newark defeated Licking Heights 56-21. Quarterback Bodie Smith was 17/20 passing for 241 yards and 5 touchdowns. Kolton Peterson ran for 105 yards and a touchdown. Alvin Irvin-Royster ran for 95 yards and a score.

Mount Vernon lost 36-14 last year to the Wildcats. They last beat Newark was 41-20 in 2021.

                        Danville Host Utica

The Danville Blue Devils are 1-0 after a 34-13 road win at Worthington Christian. The Blue Devils rushed for 279 yards, 187 of those were by Sophomore Cy Wallace who also rushed for three touchdowns. Nolan Ridgeway threw for 122 yards and a score and rushed for 25 yards. Wesley Payne led the way on defense with 9 tackles.

Utica fell 34-0 to Centerburg. In the loss Kamden Hall caught 4 passes for 34 yards. He carried the ball 6 times for 21 yards and 3 tackles on defense. Quarterback Aaron Hays was 13/23 passing for 143 yards. Hunter McKinney had 5 catches for 58 yards.

                        Centerburg Host Johnstown

Both teams come in 1-0 after dominating week 1 wins. Johnstown’s John Eckenrode had a pair of interceptions including a pick six in the Johnstown’s 70-26 win over Zanesville. Johnstown put up 51 points in the first half. Centerburg’s Blane Ball threw four touchdown passes to Hayden Love and tossed for 280 yards, Love had 240 yards receiving. Centerburg and Johnstown are meeting for the first time since 2012. Johnstown won 42-21. Centerburg’s last win over Johnstown was in 2005 when the team went to the state final four.

East Knox at Wynford

The Bulldogs lost 25-24 to Northridge to open the season despite three touchdown passes from Quarterback Jax Lester. Lester threw for 233 yards. Landon Boyd ran for 71 yards, averaging 10 yards a carry in the loss. Logan Clark hauled in a pair of touchdowns and had 103 yards receiving. Rush Beatty had a receiving touchdown as well.

Wynford lost 32-27 to Cardington Lincoln week 1.

Fredericktown host Northridge

The Freddies and Vikings are both 1-0 heading into this match up. Northridge was led by three rushing touchdowns by Brayden Bingham. Bingham ran for 239 yards in the win over the Bulldogs. Brode Davis scored a pair of touchdowns including a 76 yard touchdown run in the Freddies win over the Highland Scots. Davis finished with 100 yards on the ground and 42 yards through the air. Blake Sipes threw for 78 yards and a 13 yard touchdown pass to Davis.
