MOUNT VERNON, June 8, 2023 – Motorists should be aware that a couple of traffic-pattern
changes are in the works, or have already been instituted, on a handful of streets in the City of
Mount Vernon. The changes are temporary, but could last through the summer.
In accordance with City Ordinance 305.04 (Temporary Authority of the Director of Public Service-
Safety), Safety-Service Director Rick Dzik has directed Street Department Superintendent Tom
Hinkle to de-activate the traffic signals at the intersection of Belmont and Mansfield avenues and
install temporary stop signs there for up to 90 days.
This directive, made to facilitate the installation of new signals and equipment at the intersection,
took effect on June 6, 2023, and continues until Sept. 4, 2023, or until the new signals are
operational.
Secondly, also in accordance with City Ordinance 305.04, the Safety-Service Director has directed
the Street Department Superintendent to modify the traffic pattern for West Hamtramck Street
between North Mulberry and North Sandusky streets by covering the one-way signs pertaining to
Hamtramck that are in the vicinity. In addition, this same section of West Hamtramck has been
authorized as a temporary truck route.
This will allow for the safe operation of construction vehicles working on the site at 301 N. Mulberry
St. Residents are strongly encouraged to not park on West Hamtramck Street between North
Mulberry and North Sandusky streets, if it is possible for them, for the 90-day period from June 15,
2023 until Sept. 13, 2023.
