Bond has been set at 50,000 dollars for a man accused of shooting a woman on the 200 block of Greenwood Avenue on Saturday. 23 year old Leroy King the third is charged in Mount Vernon Municipal Court with Felonious Assault and Discharging a firearm on or near habitation. His preliminary hearing is set for October 8th at 3pm.
On September 28th , 2024 at approximately 2:30 pm Officers from the Mount Vernon
Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Greenwood
Avenue.
Upon their arrival Officers located a single adult female victim. The victim was suffering
from what was believed to be a single gunshot wound. Mount Vernon Emergency
Medical Services were called to the location, the individual was treated at the scene and
then transported to Knox Community Hospital.
Detectives from the Police Department were also called to the location. During the initial
investigation Officers detained a single male suspect, Leroy E. King (23).
Initial reports were that the suspected was at large in the community. (Knox Community
Hospital placed their facility on lockdown as a precaution). This information was
incorrect. The sole suspect was detained at the scene immediately upon the Officers
arrival.
Leroy E. King was ultimately arrested, and has initially been charged with “Improperly
discharging firearm at or into a habitation”. He was transported to the Knox County Jail
without incident and is being held without bond at this time.
This incident is still under investigation and further charges may be forthcoming.

In accordance with the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s identification will
not be released at this time.
