43 year old Mount Vernon man killed in crash while fleeing police

A 43-year-old man — identified as Jerad Shaw of Mount Vernon, Ohio — died in a crash Wednesday in Ashland County after authorities say he was being pursued by a sheriff’s deputy for “multiple traffic violations.”

Authorities say it happened around 6:21 p.m. in Loudonville as Shaw was driving a 2000 Saturn Ion northbound on state Route 3 and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of East Main Street, continuing northbound on North Market Street.

Shaw then “failed to maintain control, drove left of center” and struck a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck before striking a Lexus, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

He died as a result of his injuries from the crash.

The 66-year-old driver of the Lexus was taken to Wooster Community Hospital with minor injuries, while authorities say the Ram pickup truck driver was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
