Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction @ Bladensburg Community Center
May 18 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 18th, as the Bladensburg Community Center hosts a Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction starting at 5 pm and going until dusk.

Everyone is invited to our Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction in support of needed renovations to the old gym at the Bladensburg Community Center.  The silent auction includes dinner gift cards, many gift baskets, gift certificates to fine stores, hand made items, rare pieces, pottery, hand made wreaths, hand made cutting boards, hand painted fishing lures, etc. Something for just about everyone’s interests and tastes!

📅 Date: May 18, 2024
🕕 Time: 5 pm til dusk
📍 Location: Bladensburg Community Center, 25821 New Guilford Road, Bladensburg

Indulge in a full, delicious cookout dinner, bid on exclusive auction items, and enjoy family fun games of basketball, cornhole and pickle ball, all while supporting a meaningful cause. Your generosity will help the Bladensburg Community Heritage Foundation fully renovate the 60 plus year old gym, with a new sport court floor and other needed upgrades!

Please consider coming out this weekend to support our fundraiser for the Bladensburg Community Center. We are looking to raise funds to fully restore the old gym. We are already well on our way to our goal of raising $60,000 towards the needed renovations! Our gym has provided a home for school aged basketball and baseball teams to practice, hosted the Knox County Special Olympics for the last two years (giving these wonderful athletes a place to compete and show off their skills), provided the space for baton twirlers to practice and compete, provided a spot for community activities and gatherings, and allowed families to have space for family fun time.  But the gym desperately needs renovation.  We want to continue to provide a place in our community for our kids, adults, and seniors to have a safe and inviting place to practice, play and develop physical activities.

🌟 Let’s come together for a night of dinner, family fun and community giving and help create a lasting impact ! 🌟 Your support will make a real difference in the lives of those we serve. Working together, we can all make a difference for generations to come.

May 18 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

The Heisey Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled “Band Classics” on Saturday, February 24, at 7:30 p.m.  The concert will be held at the John W. Alford Performing Arts Hall in the John Gilbert Reese Center on the campus of The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.

Dr. Russel Mikkelson, Music Director and Principal Conductor, has selected a program of pieces of all levels of difficulty that have proven to be significant contributions to wind band repertoire.  The theme for this concert is Band Classics and will include the following selections:  The Footlifter by Henry Fillmore, Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, Of Sailors and Whales by W. Francis McBeth, Overture for Winds by Charles Carter, Salvation Is Created by Pavel Tschesnokoff, English Suite by Claire Grundman and Midway March by John Williams.

The Heisey Wind Ensemble performed on February 3rd for the 2024 Ohio Music Education Association Professional Development Conference in Columbus.  Dr. Mikkelson and the HWE received a standing ovation from the crowd for their performance.

The HWE, formed in 1985, has been recognized as one of Ohio’s finest adult concert bands.  Membership is by audition only and includes outstanding musicians from Licking, Franklin, Fairfield, Guernsey, Delaware, Coshocton, Knox, and Muskingum counties.  The band has been selected to perform at conventions of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA).

The remaining concerts this season are all at the Reese Center on the Newark Campus of OSU and COTC, and start at 7:30 PM.  Those dates are Saturday, April 20, 2024 and Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Tickets for HWE concerts are available only at the door.  Adults are $15, seniors (60+) are $10 and students are $5.  Additional information can be found at the band’s web site at www.heiseywindensemble.org
