Public Service Announcement
Did you know…Research shows that children who attend high-quality preschool programs like Head Start are more likely to succeed in school, graduate from high school, and experience better long-term health and employment outcomes.
Knox County Head Start is now enrolling children in its Head Start and Early Head Start programs for the 2025–2026 school year. Head Start serves children ages 3 to five, and Early Head Start serves pregnant moms, infants and toddlers. Families may be eligible if they are receiving SNAP, TANF or SSI benefits, or if 2024 income is under 100% of the federal poverty level.
For families needing child care,Head Start/Early Head Start funding is combined with child care to provide full-day options, and families are encouraged to apply for child care assistance through Knox County Job & Family Services and see if our classrooms would be a good fit.
At Head Start, we believe parents are children’s first and most important teachers. We offer qualified teachers, health screenings, nutrition meals, inclusive classrooms and support for children with disabilities. We partner closely with parents and caregivers through home visits, parent meetings, and goal setting to provide individualized services. Preschoolers do not have to be potty trained to attend our classrooms; Head Start teachers will work with you and your child on potty training!

At Head Start, families are children’s first and most important teachers. That’s why we partner closely with parents and caregivers through home visits, parent meetings, and goal setting to ensure every child’s success.
Together, families and schools create the foundation for children to thrive — not only in preschool, but in life. In our classrooms, children learn to share, take turns, follow directions, and solve problems. These social-emotional skills are just as important as learning letters and numbers.
Head Start programs provide a safe, nurturing environment where children feel supported, confident, and ready to learn.
When children feel valued, their curiosity grows — setting the stage for lifelong learning.
