Knox County Man Charged in Alleged Plot to Attack White House UFC Event

A Knox County man is among five individuals facing federal charges in connection with an alleged plot to attack the UFC event held at the White House on Sunday, according to court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Nineteen-year-old Tycen Proper has been charged with conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, attempted murder of a federal officer or employee, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and receipt or transfer of a firearm used to commit a felony.

According to a criminal complaint, the investigation began after Proper’s mother contacted authorities expressing concerns about her son’s recent behavior. Court documents state that family members reported concerns about firearms purchases and online communications with a group of individuals.

Investigators say Proper’s father told authorities his son planned to travel to Virginia to meet members of an online group and participate in what were described as “recons” and “missions.”

During the investigation, authorities reportedly discovered firearms, body armor, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Court documents indicate investigators also recovered communications from an encrypted messaging platform that allegedly discussed plans involving the White House UFC event.

According to federal investigators, members of the group allegedly discussed using drones carrying explosive devices and coordinating attacks targeting attendees and other individuals at the event.

Court records state that Proper allegedly told investigators he was affiliated with a group known as “Vanguard of the Old.” Authorities allege the group communicated extremist views and discussed plans to carry out acts of violence.

Federal investigators also reported that searches of electronic devices uncovered maps, images, and other materials allegedly connected to the planning effort.

According to court documents, Proper admitted to participating in discussions related to the alleged attack plan during interviews with investigators.

Proper is currently being held at the Franklin County Jail while the federal case proceeds.

Federal authorities emphasize that criminal charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Additional court appearances are expected as the investigation continues.
