One of Mount Vernon’s most unique summer traditions returns this Friday as the Summer Front Porch Concert Series transforms East High Street into an outdoor celebration of music, art, and community.
Hosted by the Kokosing Valley Arts Alliance, the free event will take place Friday, June 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. along East High Street in Mount Vernon. The concert series continues on July 17 and Aug. 21.
This month, the Front Porch Concert Series will feature artists and bands on six different porches. Some performers include Vernon Schubel, Six Miles to Nellie, Jaidyn and Jim Hawkins, Buster Strangs, the Joe Levy Band and many many more.
In addition to live music, visitors can expect food trucks, local artists, vendors, and family-friendly activities. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and spend the evening enjoying live entertainment in one of Mount Vernon’s most historic neighborhoods.
The annual event features local and regional musicians performing from the front porches of historic homes throughout the neighborhood, creating a walkable musical experience that has become a summertime favorite for residents and visitors alike. Organizers describe the series as a “musical street fair” that brings together live music, local artists, food vendors, family activities, and community fellowship.
Musical styles range from folk and rock to jazz, blues, gospel, and country, offering something for nearly every taste. Throughout the evening, attendees are encouraged to stroll between performance locations, explore the neighborhood, and enjoy multiple acts.
What began as a small neighborhood event has grown significantly in recent years. The concert series now utilizes multiple front porches along East High Street and showcases dozens of performers throughout the summer season. Organizers say the goal is to celebrate both the arts and the sense of community that makes Mount Vernon unique.
The Summer Front Porch Concert Series is free and open to the public. More information, including performer lineups for each concert date, is available through the Kokosing Valley Arts Alliance.
