Mt. Vernon Invites Residents to Weigh In on Neighborhood Revitalization Grant

Mt. Vernon is preparing an application for a $750,000 Neighborhood Revitalization Grant and is asking residents to help shape the proposal. A public meeting will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Street Elementary School.

The grant would support improvements within a designated section of the city’s 3rd Ward, where a majority of households fall within low‑to‑moderate income guidelines. The target area includes portions of Block Group 3 in Census Tract 728 and Block Group 4 in Census Tract 727, with LMI rates of 70% and 68.75% respectively.

If awarded, the funding could be used for a range of neighborhood upgrades, including sidewalk and street repairs, storm sewer work, park improvements, demolition of unsafe structures, and enhancements to lighting and crosswalks. City officials say community input is a required part of the application and will help determine which projects move forward.

Residents who live in or near the target area are encouraged to attend the meeting and share their priorities as the city finalizes its grant submission.
