Men’s Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Battle Against Terriers

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. —  The Mount Vernon Nazarene men’s volleyball team (1-3) returned to Ariel Arena for a non-conference matchup against the Hiram College Terriers (4-3) on Tuesday, February 4.

In a five-set battle. MVNU took the opening set 25-22, but Hiram responded with a dominant 25-16 win in the second. The Cougars bounced back to claim the third set 25-23, yet Hiram regained momentum in the fourth, winning 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set. In the final set, Hiram outlasted MVNU 15-11, sealing the 3-2 match victory.

Ethan Cline led the offensive effort with 19 kills, hitting .227, while also adding an ace and 11 digs. Noah Wineberg contributed seven kills on a .278 hitting percentage, along with three service aces and a team-high seven block assists. Christian Kyer was efficient with seven kills on 14 attempts, posting a .357 hitting percentage. Tyler Shields facilitated the offense with 37 assists and chipped in a kill, an ace, and six digs. Defensively, Tyler Monnin anchored the back row with 18 digs.

What’s Next

MVNU men’s volleyball will kick off WHAC conference play on the road, facing the Bethel University Pilots in Mishawaka, Ind., on Friday, February 7. The first serve in the Goodman Gymnasium is at 7:00 p.m. EST.
