Kenyon moves to 17th after 36 holes at Golfweek Classic

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – After firing a +13 team score (297) in round one of the Golfweek October Classic on Sunday, good for 20th place, the Kenyon College men’s golf team was back in action on Monday for the second round from Ravenwood Golf Club.

The Owls had a great showing in round two, moving up three places on the leaderboard with an even-par 284. Adrian Jordon and Will Hulsey were the team’s top finishers on the day, each shooting a one-under 70 to help move the team’s total to 581.

Kenyon’s biggest mover after day two was Hulsey, who shot a one-under-par 70 and moved up 35 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 47th, tying the team lead after 36 holes with a +3 score.

The junior buried three birdies to go along with one bogey on his first nine holes, the back nine of Ravenwood, to go along with one bogey to shoot a 34 (-2). After that, he made back-to-back bogeys on the first and second holes to move to even par for round two but made a birdie on the fifth hole to solidify the 70.

Jordon’s round got off to a rocky start, carding a seven on the par-five eleventh hole. However, he was able to fire back with birdies on the par-three twelfth, par-four fourteenth, and par-three 16th to end his first nine holes at one-under par (35).

On the front nine, he birdied and bogeyed two holes apiece to shoot an even-par 35 and finalize his red-figure finish. Jordon moved up 31 spots on the leaderboard to sit in 65th place overall.

Just as they did in round one, the sophomore duo of Jaiden Koonar and Jonathan Oakes matched each other’s scores, shooting a one-over 72 for round two.

Oakes’ had an uncharacteristic first nine holes, especially after a birdie on his second hole of the day. He then went on to bogey five out of the next seven holes to shoot 40. On the front nine, he fired the best nine-hole stretch of the day for the Owls, shooting a bogey-free 32 (-3) to finish at one-over par. He sits in a tie for 47th on the individual leaderboard.

Koonar had more of a steady round, despite a bogey on his opening hole. After another bogey on the 15th hole, he birdied seven and nine to shoot even par after nine. He stayed hot with another birdie on his tenth and 17th holes, but three bogeys sandwiched in the middle led to his +1 score. Koonar joins Oakes and Hulsey in a tie for 47th individually.

Rounding out the Owls for round two was senior Armand Ouellette, who had the second-best nine-hole stretch of the day on his first nine holes, making three birdies and a bogey for a two-under 34. On his second nine-hole stretch, he dropped with three double bogeys for a 41, carding a 75 on the day and placing 97th on the individual charts.

Through 36 holes of play, Washington & Lee took the lead with a 16-under par score on Monday to move to -26 for the tournament. Sewanee sits ten strokes back (-16) in second, while Huntingdon College (-8) claimed third.

The Owls will look to climb even further up the leaderboard in the third and final round of the Golfweek October Classic, teeing off on Tuesday morning from Miramar Beach, Florida.
